Kaitlyn Lutinski of Derry, left, edged out Micaela Griffin of Hampstead in the Brookstone Golf Course Junior Club Championship Sunday.

DERRY — Two of the area's up-and-coming female golf stars battled it out at Brookstone Golf Course last weekend in the Junior Club Championship.

Kaitlyn Lutinski of Derry (78 and 72 for a total of 150) edged out Micaela Griffin of Hampstead (82 and 73 for a total of 155).

Both girls will be entering eighth grade in the fall and star for their respective Hood and Hampstead Middle School teams.

Lutinski had a 4-stroke lead after Saturday's round and had stretched the lead to 9 after the front nine on Sunday.

Griffin wasn't finished, saving the best nine holes by either player (33) for the late run, but it wasn't enough to catch Lutinski.

Both players are to be commended for their outstanding sportsmanship and lightning fast pace of play, according to Anthony J. Zdunko, PGA Professional at Brookstone. They completed each day's 18-hole round in less than two hours.
