Hood Pond is ready for fishing
DERRY — The Derry Lions Kids Fishing Derby is Saturday, May 9, at Hood Pond. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m.; fishing goes from 8 a.m. to noon.
Children 2 to 15 can fish free, although donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of stocking thepond with 400 trout.
Trophies will be awarded in a number of categories and each participant will get a participation ribbon.
Snacks and beverages will be for sale, as will raffle tickets.
Hood student chosen for lacrosse classic
DERRY — Meghan Umansky of Derry, a seventh-grader at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School has been named as a 2015 Brine National All-Star.
Meghan, the daughter of Alex and Barbie Umansky, has been selected to represent the New England region at the 2015 Brine National Lacrosse Academy and Brine National Lacrosse Classic.
Tryputs were held in February. The event will be held in Virginia June 29-July 2.
The Brine National Lacrosse Academy brings the top middle school lacrosse players in the country to one venue, where regional teams are coached by NCAA lacrosse coaches and compete to become national champions.

Chester athlete on top lacrosse team
BOSTON — Jeremiah Treanor of Chester and the Saints men's lacrosse team finished the spring season as Great Northeast Athletic Conference champions for the second consecutive year.
The top-seeded team rolled to a 13-6 win over No. 2 Mount Ida College. With an overall record of 13-4, the Saints have earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Gym-Ken gymnasts shine at regionals
WINDHAM — Gym-Ken gymnasts competed at regionals in Springfield, Mass., and did well.
Windham Level 9 gymnast Samantha Jezak scored 8.825 on vault, 9.150 on bars, 8.975 on beam and 9.225 on floor. She has qualified to compete at the Eastern Championship in Kissimmee, Fla., May 8-10. At the state championship, she was first on floor and the Senior All Around State Champion.
At the state championship, Level 9 Tori Sipes of Windham was named champion in the junior division on bars, beam and floor, and the All Around State Champion with the highest score in the junior division.
Level 9 gymnast Julianna Corsetto of Derry was fifth All Around at the state championship. She was a member of the state champion Pinkerton Astros team.
Rec department offers tennis lessons
WINDHAM — Windham Recreation is offering spring tennis lessons Tuesday, beginning in May.
Lessons are available for women, as well as children ages 4 to 9.

Local athletes score in synchronized swim
The Catalinas Synchronized Swim Team of the Granite YMCA recently competed in the 2015 New England Synchronized Swim Association North Novice, Intermediate and Masters Championships at the Greater Beverly YMCA.
Local winners include: Julia Caselden of Derry and Isa Lamers of Hampstead tied for sixth in Intermediate 13 and over figure competition; Julia Caselden third in Intermediate 13 and over routine.
In the 13 and over team routines, Sophie Barber, Julia Benson, Julia Caselden, Riley Caselden, and Elizabeth Herod placed second, and Grace Hanna, Zara Hannigan, Isa Lamers, Annalise Poisson, Arianna Traballano and Emma Favorite placed third.
Emily McAuliffe of Londonderry took first place in the Master’s Solo competition.
