Former Pinkerton Academy football captain Jeff Ragoza got off to a quick start to his post-grad season with the Taft School in Watertown, Conn., only to have his day end prematurely.

The middle linebacker, who had banged up his shoulder in a scrimmage, fought through the injury and had three tackles in the first quarter against Avon Old Farms.

Early in the second quarter, though, Ragoza and Michigan-bound prospect Mike Cox collided head-on and the ex-Astro re-injured the shoulder on a monster hit.

Ragoza is now day-to-day for Taft, which hosts Deerfield Saturday.
