LONDONDERRY — The 2012 MVP Millennium Running Series kicked off Jan. 1 in Londonderry with the Millennium Mile. More than 1,000 runs of all ages turned out.

The seven races in the series take place throughout 2012 in Southern New Hampshire.

The next race in the series is the Manchester Shamrock Shuffle, March 25.

The top male finisher was Peter Najem, 25, of Derry with a time of 3:57. Second was Sam Horn of Colorado Springs, Colo., 24, in 4:02. The third male finisher was Justin Lutz, 31, of Framingham with a time of 4:08. The record for the race is 3:51, posted by Scott Anderson in 1999 and Andy Downin in 2001.

The top female finisher was Kara Haas, 41, of Chelmsford in 4:45. Second was Liz Haglund, 27, of Ardmore, Pa., in 4:46. The third female finisher was Jenn Donovan, 29, of Brighton, Mass., in 4:47. The record female finish was 4:20, posted by Amy Mortimer in 2005.

Some very young local runners placed, too. Derek Allen, 2, of Londonderry took first in the 2-year-old male category in 10:31. Sarah Garofalo and Eres Delorey, both 3 and of Londonderry, finished first and second, respectively in the 3-year-old girl group.

Joshua Albrecht, 4, of Londonderry took second in his age group and so did Killian Daron, 5, of Londonderry.

Olivia MacDonnell, 6, of Londonderry finished first in the 6-year-old girls category. Ryan Young, 8, of Londonderry was second in his group.

Elise Stahly, 8, of Londonderry was third in her category. Will Kemball-Cook, 9, of Londonderry finished second for 9-year-old boys and Cailin Borovicka, 9, of Londonderry took second, too.

Brian Udair, 10, of Londonderry finished second for his age group. Londonderry's Lexi Mayo took first for 12-year-old girls and Britney Johnson of Derry was second.

Mitch Sroka, 17, of Londonderry took second for 13- to 19-year-old males.

There were lots of local winners in adult categories. Barbara Roberts, 47, of Londonderry took her group, females 40 to 49, in 5:21. Londonderry's Nancy Peabody, 51, finished first for women ages 50 to 59, in 6:35. She was followed in third place by Londonderry's Barbara Kacos, 51.

For women 70 to 79, Sachiko Burkinshaw, 73, of Londonderry finished first in 8:23.
