As the weather (slowly) begins to turn for the better, local baseball teams are putting their final preparations together for the start of the 2019 season.

And they all look like they’ll be ready to contend.

Welcome, Windham

Windham will be taking part in its first season in Division 1, but will have plenty of experience with seven returning starters from last year’s team. Coach Leo Gravell, now in his third season at the helm, kept the Jaguars a power in Division 2 since taking over, going 25-11 over the last two seasons.

Senior Jacob Wallace and junior Jojo Gallo will be the leaders offensively for the Jaguars, as both hit .333 last spring and drove in a combined 23 runs. Tyler Toohey (4-3, 3.06 ERA, 32 Ks in 42 IP last spring) will be the team’s rock on the mound.

Astros in charge

Pinkerton remains one of the team’s to beat in Division 1. The Astros return eight starters from last year’s team that went 17-5 and advanced to the state semis, and will have plenty of firepower on the mound. Junior lefty Asa Runge, already a Division 1 College of Charleston commit, went 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA last spring while also hitting .413 with 24 RBIs. Fellow returning starters Richard Marique, Mat Albetski and Derek Hiscox give the Astros needed pitching depth.

And at the plate, Pinkerton is also returning UMass Boston-bound Connor Jenkins, who hit .380 with 26 runs scored and 18 RBIs a year ago. Brady Day (.379) is another power bat the Astros are returning.

Lancers have talent

Londonderry lost stalwarts Nate Sullivan, Dakota Johnson, Ricky Perry and Anthony Pirolli to graduation, but still return plenty of talent.

Reece Manor can do it all for the Lancers. Last spring, he went 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 18 Ks in 20 innings pitched on the mound, while also hitting a team-best .407 (22 for 54) with 13 RBIs at the dish. Brandon Fish (.290 last year) is also returning, as are football standouts Evan Cormier and Tyler Kayo.
