DERRY — The Planning Board unanimously approved a plan by Pinkerton Academy to create a new practice field at the campus property off North Main Street.

The board approved the plan at a meeting on Sept. 16.

Pinkerton representatives say the plan is for a new 200- by 300-foot natural grass field near the school's existing baseball field on the side of campus where most athletic fields are already located including the football field, soccer, and cross country trails.

The new field will be used mainly for practices.

"That side of campus has become our athletic side," said Pinkerton Headmaster Timothy Powers. "It allows us to move the vast majority of our outdoor sports to this side."

There are no plans for any additional lighting on this field, Powers added.

Planning Board officials took a site walk prior to giving approval.
