Pinkerton boys race to 2nd at Ottaviani Invite; Girls take 6th

Amelia Graves: 400 hurdles champion.

The season is early, but the powerhouse Pinkerton track teams already look to be in good form coming off strong winter seasons.

The Astros had a strong showing at last Saturday’s annual Ottaviani Invite at North Andover High, highlighted by the boys team finishing in second out of 23 scoring teams with 82 points. They trailed only host North Andover, which finished with 86 points.

Senior Adam Spencer won the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.81, topping Central Catholic senior Dimetri Morris, who had the top time in the preliminaries. Not satisfied with just the one individual event, Spencer also finished third in the high jump, eclipsing 5-foot-10.

And his day was just getting started.

From there, Spencer joined the 4x100 relay team of Ryan Dane, senior John Brooks and junior Conor Seleny to take first in a competitive field with a time of 44.00 seconds flat. Dane also capped off his fine day with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.67).

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the day for the Pinkerton boys, however, came from triple-jumper Joron Harrell. The senior won the event by nearly three inches, notching a distance of 44-06.75.

The Pinkerton girls also had a solid day, taking sixth overall out of 24 scoring teams with 51.5 points.

Senior Amelia Graves shined for the Astros, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.38 while also adding a third in the javelin (101-05). Macy Graves took third in the 800 (2:24.66), and Meghan Cross added a fourth with a solid mile time of 5:28.25.
