No doubt who's No. 1: Keegan, top-ranked Londonderry take down Bedford in rout

BEDFORD — The Londonderry football team is passing every test with flying colors so far this fall.

Last Friday night, the top-ranked Lancers left little doubt as to who the true top dog in the state is. Traveling to No. 2-ranked Bedford — a team that was 32-2 at home since joining Division 1 in 2013 — the Lancers dominated 35-0, forcing a running clock for most of the second half.

Cole Keegan was the star for Londonderry (6-0).

The senior opened the scoring on an 11-yard run, then hauled in touchdown passes of 7 and 40 yards from quarterback Jake McEachern. A Jeff Wiedenfeld 36-yard scamper in the second helped the Lancers open a 21-0 lead at halftime, then Keegan’s second TD catch and a pick-six from Alex Tsetsilas made it 35-0 with still 8:14 remaining in the third quarter.

From there, it was all running time.

Keegan also had an interception to end his great day.

“He’s been doing this for three years really,” Londonderry coach Jimmy Lauzon told The Union Leader. “A game like this on a stage like this, it was a great opportunity to show everybody. He’s a tough cover for just about everybody. It wasn’t a surprise to any of us that he had this type of night.”

Bedford (5-1) never could get anything going against a stout Londonderry defense.

And with the way the Lancers are playing, it’s going to take quite the effort from an opposing team to beat them this fall.
