Local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competitors, Ed Tapia and Kevin Smith of Londonderry’s Woo Kickboxing, competed at The Fuji Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Halloween Massachusetts Open on October 27.Â
A newcomer with only six months of experience, the event was Smith’s first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition. But that didn’t stop him from taking first place in the gi and second in his no gi division. His opponent came out fast and aggressive, but Smith remained calm and won his first match with a triangle choke with his legs.
Tapia took second place in the gi and first in his no gi division.
Woo Kickboxing Academy of Londonderry is an official Brazilian Top Team affiliate led by Black Belt, Professor Joe Kvetkosky.
