Local Sports: Windham’s Hopkins starring at St. Michael’s

Connor Hopkins

Saint Michael’s College men’s swimming & diving senior Connor Hopkins of Windham was named Northeast-10 Conference Swimmer of the Week for his impressive showing in a double dual meet last Saturday.

Hopkins won twice while nabbing a pair of runner-up showings in a loss to Norwich University, 148-131, and a win over Keene State, 182-102.

In his first meet since winning the 50-yard freestyle at last spring’s NE10 Championship, Hopkins won the 50 free (22.31) while anchoring the top 200 free relay (1:32.94). The captain placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (56.82), coming within 0.10 seconds of first, and led off for the second-place 200-yard medley relay (1:43.60).

100 for Blair

Windham field hockey coach Katie (Bourque) Blair earned her 100th career victory in the Jaguars’ recent win over Merrimack. Blair’s record now stands at 101-9-4 in seven seasons as Windham coach. Her Jags won the Division 2 state title in 2017 and lost the Division 1 title game last fall.

Day and Knights

Pinkerton’s Brady Day announced that he’ll be playing his summer baseball next year for the Nashua Silver Knights of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The senior infielder is committed to Division 1 Kansas State. An Eagle-Tribune All-Star last spring, he hit .440 with 24 runs scored and 15 RBIs for the Astros.
