Former Pinkerton golf star Rich Berberian Jr. made his fourth straight appearance at the PGA Championship.
The 31-year-old Berberian, who is the director of instruction at Vesper Country Club, played with Cameron Champ and Lucas Glover during the first two days of the tournament at Long Island’s difficult Bethpage Black Golf Club. The Hooksett native shot a 6-over 76 on Thursday and followed with a 5-over 75 on Friday to miss the cut.
Three club professionals made the cut this past weekend, a rarity as in the 10 years prior only seven club pros combined had made the cut.
Berberian was one of 20 PGA Professionals who qualified. To do so, he had to finish among the top 20 in a field of 312 golfers in the national PGA Professional Championship, which was played at Belfair CC in Bluffton, S.C., from April 28 to May 1. He finished the four-day tournament in a tie for sixth place by shooting a 1-under-par 286 (72-70-72-72).
