While it may be a daunting task, the Derry Little League is determined to raise $250,000 to build much-needed athletic fields in town, and they plan to make the project work primarily with private funds through fundraising efforts. Derry Little League directors are looking to raise enough money to build a multi field "Sportsplex" at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School and would like to begin moving dirt as early as this summer in the hopes of having the fields ready no later than the spring of 2010.
The first major fundraiser the Derry Little League has planned is a Boston-style stand up comedy show in addition to both a silent and live auction scheduled for Sunday June 7 at 6 p.m. at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry.
National headliner Robbie Printz, who works Las Vegas, Atlantic City and all the major clubs around the country, as well as having been seen on the late night talk shows Comedy Central and HBO, will be the main performer. Printz will be joined by Steve Bjork, a Boston-area performer who has headlined around New England for the past 20 years. Also appearing will be Jessica Cacisano one of Boston's fastest-rising comedy stars.
Items that have been listed to be auctioned off include signed Red Sox game tickets, signed memorabilia from the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and others sports stars/teams.
Tickets are available in advance at the O'Hara Field Concession stand, by contacting Paul Ralston at email@example.com, or any other member of the Derry LL Board of Directors. For additional information about Derry Little League go to www.derryll.org.
