DERRY — The Derry Parks and Recreation Department has some youth offerings for late fall and winter. Check them out and register soon.
Lil’ Samurai is for children ages 5 to 10.
The Lil’ Samurai Judo class is a fun, instructional program that teaches the art of Judo in a safe, structured, and supervised setting.
Students will be taught a variety of techniques by Roger Lenfest, a third-degree black belt and nationally certified coach. All students who join the Derry Judo Club must also become a member of The United States Judo Association.
Enrollment is open from now until full.
Classes are held at Veterans Hall, 31 West Broadway.
Winter 1 starts Wednesday, Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 19, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Winter 2 starts Wednesday, Jan. 9 and ends Feb. 6, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Winter 3 kicks off Wednesday, Feb. 13, and winds down March 13. Classes are from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.
Peewee Basketball for the smallest players, who must have been 4 years old by Jan. 1, 2012, will be held Saturdays from early January through mid-March.
The Peewee Basketball Clinic is a fun, instructional program introducing the fundamentals of the sport to 4-year-old athletes.
The 30-minute clinic will be directed by a department commissioner. It is important to note that this is a skills based program, and there will be no games played.
Winter basketball for children age 5 all the way through high school will start in early January and continue for one-hour sessions on Saturdays through mid-March.
The winter basketball program is a fun, instructional program introducing the fundamentals of the sport in a non-competitive atmosphere. Children in grades 3-8 will have a weekly practice, as well as a Saturday game.
All other divisions will consist of Saturday games.
