Pinkerton Academy will hold on to the Mack Plaque after defeating the Londonderry Lancers, 4-3, this weekend in a number of athletic contests.
The Astros were victorious in football, 41-6; girls soccer, 1-0; field hockey, 5-1; and volleyball, 3-0.
The Lancers came close, winning three events. The Lancers triumphed in boys soccer, 5-2; girls cross-country, 20-40; and boys cross-country, 25-30.
Astros take Lancers at net
In volleyball action, the varsity Lady Astros handed their Lancer counterparts a shutout Saturday, 3-0, by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-21.
Astro Brenna McNally had 11 kills and 15 digs to go along with 13 service points and 6 aces in the win. Hannah Welsh added 11 kills on the night for Pinkerton. Kelsey Cummings had 15 digs and Riley McKechnie had 24 assists in the win.
Lancers take win in soccer
The Astros' varsity boys soccer team hosted Londonderry on Saturday in their Mack Plaque match-up.
Pinkerton senior Sean Smith had 2 goals, but it was not enough to beat the Lancers, who won, 5-2. Lancer Rob Hart had two goals for the win.
Lady Astros squeak by
The varsity Lady Astros and Lady Lancers were tied at 0-0 with just two minutes of soccer left to play Saturday.
Pinkerton's Kasey Marraffa found the back of the net for the game-winner.
Astros dominate the field
The varsity Lady Astros triumphed in field hockey Saturday, 5-1.
Pinkerton had a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Linnea Testa, Nicole Yannalfo, Jordyn Hamilton, Canada Stewart, and Julie Saltamartini each scored for the Astros. Brook Dorval, Jessica Cote and Jordyn Hamilton assisted on the day for Pinkerton. Katie Jones made 5 saves in net for the win.
Astros dominate in football
The varsity Astros team hosted Londonderry Saturday in their Mack Plaque match-up.
Londonderry scored first to take a 6-0 lead, but the Astros answered with 41 unanswered points to take a 41-6 victory.
Pinkerton's Ryan Coombs returned two punts for touchdowns, had a touchdown reception and went 5 for 6 kicking extra points in the victory.
Lancers take race
Pinkerton's Tony Anzivino took first place in a time of 15:45 Saturday during the cross-town cross-country race.
But Londonderry won, 25-30.
Lancer Mitch Syoka was second at 16:04, and teammates Andreas Geiger was fourth, Devereux Geiger was fifth, J.R. Winn was sixth, James McClure was eighth.
Pinkerton's Grant Langevin placed third, Chris Poggi seventh, Sean Kopetz ninth, Robbie Pienta 10th, Patrick Chabot 11th, and Mike Pellegrini 12th for the Astros, with all runners coming in under 17:00 minutes.
Lady Lancers win, too
The Lady Lancers took the Mack Plaque race Saturday, 20-40.
Pinkerton's Sammy Goldsmith won the meet with a time of 19:37.
Londonderry's Cassandra Cronin was second at 19:46. She was followed by teammates Colleen Kennedy, Alissa Rogers and Amanda Szymanski.
Pinkerton's Felicia Dowling was sixth, followed by teammate Haley McMullen. Maddie Weston, Abby Taylor, Kaila Cote and Siobhan McLaughlin rounded out the top finishers.
