With the cost of gasoline rising each day and families on a tight budget, there are many options available for everyone this summer. Look no further than your local library. Libraries are stocked with ideas for families when they want to get away without breaking the bank.

At the Taylor Library we have library passes which will admit a family of four for free or with a reduced co-pay to many area museums.

Locally we offer the following passes for residents of Derry who have a valid Taylor Library card:

SEE SCIENCE CENTER-Manchester-(open 7 days)

CURRIER MUSEUM OF ART-Manchester (Open daily except Tuesday)

JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM Boston (Open 7 days - $ 3 person co-pay)

BOSTON AQUARIUM-(open 7 days September through June with a $ 8.00 person co-pay up to 4 people admitted) This pass is sponsored by the Derry Friends of the Libraries.

BOSTON MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS (open 7 days) This pass is also sponsored by the Derry Friends of the Libraries.

This pass is new to the Taylor Library and has been received very well. Formerly the Children's Museum of Portsmouth, it is now located in Dover in a space which is three times the size of Portsmouth's old location. There are many interactive exhibits for toddlers through inquisitive middle school age children. You can dig for dinosaur fossils, explore world cultures, design a real flying machine, investigate a riverbank, pilot a submarine, climb into a kaleidoscope, and create art and music all in the same day you visit the museum. There are many other exhibits waiting for you. Museum programs are also available which include Birthday Parties, classes and workshops, special events and performances as well as field trips for schools and scout groups.

The museum is open Tuesday-Sat 10-5, Sundays noon-5 and Mondays during school vacation. With the library pass, there is a co-pay of $ 2.00 per person up to four per pass. Others in the family would have to pay the normal $ 7.00 per person. Children under a year are free. Why not check out this museum online to see what wonderful activities are planned for this spring and summer. You can go to their website through the Taylor Library website at www.taylorlibrary.org.

Please call the library for details on the above passes and start planning your summer day trips.
