In reference to the road race held on Jan. 27, not only is it run on Warner Hill Road, one of the most dangerous streets in Derry, but it was run in the middle of a snowstorm with people running halfway out in the road. Next time they should reschedule it before someone gets hurt.
Why did the Police Department hire that oversized wrecker (at a big per-hour cost) to move Souhlaris' truck and sausage/hot dog cart? Was that a "show of power" at the Derry taxpayers' expense? Would somebody tell Ed Garone, Derry police chief, that money does not grow on trees?
It is arguably the most embarrassing display of a misapplication of common sense (and the absence of political aplomb) that I have ever, ever seen. Just think: The hardest working human (hot dog cart man) occupying physical space on town property (with the exception, maybe, of Frank Childs and his staff) ... and this town's mindless leadership chooses to tape an application for "Inside the Actors Studio" by simultaneously mimicking Broderick Crawford and Smokey and the Bandit, calling out what is probably a $700 per hour, 30-ton tow truck, a few cruisers and some planted paparazzi to exhibit some Joe Stalin-class power by cuffing the poor Derry taxpayer, throwing a hook to the taxpayer's only instrument of revenue ... posing for the paparazzi and carting off the whole shebang to Stalag-Derry (I presume for printing, booking and some steady forced feeding of stale bread and contaminated water).
Town Adminstrator Gary Stenhouse, get a life — you need to leave the sausage man alone. Why don't you just leave people alone?
