DERRY — In its 11 years on stage, this may be the longest show title a local acting troupe has ever seen.
theatre KAPOW presents "Shipwrecked! An Entertainment — The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as Told by Himself)" at the Derry Opera House on Feb. 22 through March 2.
It's the story of the brave and amazing adventures of 19th-century England's Louis de Rougemont, with tales that include high seas adventures, a monstrous man-eating octopus, flying wombats, sea turtles and buried treasure.
Inspired by a true story, Donald Margulies' epic "Shipwrecked! An Entertainment —The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (as Told by Himself)" examines how far people are willing to blur the line between fact and fiction in order to leave a mark on the world. This is the second time tKAPOW will produce a play by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Donald Margulies.
“What we have found with Margulies’ pieces,” show director Matt Cahoon said, “is that they work on many layers. While on the surface 'Shipwrecked' has elements of madcap comedy, the show also works on a much more profound level where perhaps Louis’ greatest adventure is his search for himself.”
"Shipwrecked! An Entertainment" is directed by Cahoon and features Peter Josephson, Katie Proulx, and Glenn Provost. Longtime tKAPOW collaborator Tayva Young will provide lighting design.
Performances are at at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and 23 and March 1 and 2 with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the Derry Opera House on West Broadway in Derry. New Hampshire. Tickets in advance are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors/students. For tickets or more information, visit tkapow.com.
