Reading challenges continue
Although area libraries remain officially closed, facilities still are offering curbside pickup times and are also planning for a summer full of remote reading activities and programs. The traditional library summer reading programs will look a bit different for 2020, but online reading challenges and special events will continue through the months ahead with virtual story times, live streaming fun including fairy houses, music, and other library favorites.
Area trails are getting some sprucing up, with safe distancing kept in mind. In Londonderry, volunteers recently repaired a refurbished a boardwalk area near Adams Road. Derry's rail trail system and its future connectivity to Londonderry is also high on the list of priorities as part of a recreation study presented to the Town Council.
Hit the beach!
Area families and beach lovers are able to visit the shoreline of Beaver Lake at Derry's Gallien's Town Beach this month. Town officials have safety guidelines and other restrictions in place at the sandy area to make sure everyone remains safe during the pandemic. That includes a limited amount of people allowed on the beach, safe distancing, and no concession stand available.
Caught on film
Area businesses that have cameras installed often pick up scary situations happening in the area. A camera installed near the Derry traffic circle recently caught a vehicle circling through the rotary and landing on its side. The scene was also shared on social media and sparked a conversation about the rules of the rotary and how to negotiate the circle safely.
