Kudos to crews

It was a lot of thanks for what local fire and police departments are doing to help support the community during the pandemic and also help with vaccine distribution.

At a recent Derry Town Council meeting, Councilor Phyllis Katsakiores said she received her second vaccine and wanted to thank everyone that worked the site she attended to get her shot, especially her local Derry firefighters.

"What a great job you and the department did," Katsakiores said. "They were wonderful, they were outstanding."

Signs of support

It was a colorful way to greet passersby heading through Derry and passing by the Water's Edge Salon. The local salon displayed a long line of colorful, hand-painted signs that filled the front of the business. Signs saying things like "Do What You Love" and other supportive sentiments offering the public a bit of good news as they drove by.

Patio perks

A springtime project is taking shape at Derry Public Library where a new patio is being constructed off the library's lower level on the side of MacGregor Park to offer outdoor space for programs, and also give an extra show of support to the town's history.

Library staff members say the new space will come in handy for children's programs and other events, and will also be part of the community's public arts efforts with a colorful piano that will be located there for anyone to play.

Ready for a party

Londonderry is ready for its summer party and plans to continue its annual Old Home Day celebration this August. Due to the pandemic, last year's event was scaled down to only a handful of events, but this year organizers are hoping to revive the five days of fun and community spirit.

Old Home Day is set for Aug. 18-21 and typically in past years has attracted big crowds. This year will also be the 122nd consecutive celebration.

Volunteers needed

Windham's Board of Selectmen is looking for people to volunteer to fill spots on various town boards and committees. Anyone interested in learning more can email townadmin@windhamnh.gov by April 23 to get information on available open positions.
