As many continue to stay close to home with only essential travel recommended, those out and about traveling to purchase groceries or for other essential tasks may have noticed some area towns keeping up with springtime construction projects. In Londonderry, work began on some Pillsbury Road projects near the Town Common, and in Derry, crews were spotted doing some major work on East Broadway.
In this time of social distancing and staying close to home, many people are posting on social media about the natural wonders they are appreciating daily in their own backyards.
Residents in Derry, Londonderry, Chester and beyond are posting photos of visiting squirrels, chipmunks, birds at the feeders and many turkeys, with the flamboyant males calling out to potential mates while fluffing their feathers.
Coloring the trails
In Derry, people enjoying the local trail system are now spotting some added color to the springtime hues this time of year. Local artist Karen Lincoln has given some trail stone barriers a splash of color, giving the trail system a bright new look to help trail lovers enjoy their time. Lincoln also helped the downtown sport some colorful images in storefronts last year, and may also be part of an ongoing downtown mural project.
During the current pandemic challenges, Moo's Ice Cream in Derry is helping people keep up with their favorite ice cream fixes by offering pickup for ice cream cakes and other treats. The Crystal Avenue business invites people to call and order their favorites to get them through the days spent close to home.
