WINDHAM — A local chef continues to serve up community as the season of thanks arrives.
Anna Marie Brickley recently prepared her annual Thanksgiving meal for residents at the Manor Motel in Windham. She has provided the food for nearly a decade.
Brickley has been well known for years for her local cable cooking show "Anna Marie's Euro Kitchen."
The motel on Rockingham Road with its 64 rooms has residents including veterans in need of support along with a good meal.
The effort to feed those in need started years ago when Brickley, a Derry resident, was working at a Windham elementary school and heard of families living at the motel.
She connected with the motel and began preparing her annual holiday meal.
On Nov. 21, Brickley put out her traditional spread for Manor residents to enjoy, including roast turkey, potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole and dessert.
Coming to the Manor to serve dinner every year is special, Brickley said. She meets the residents, hears their stories and often makes new friends.
Some guests are proud veterans, others just need some help as the holidays approach.
Manor residents are there for many reasons. Motel manager Pat Parham considers her guests like family.
"And I like knowing the fact that they feel like family here and aren't left behind," Parham said.
She said the community is generous. The Manor Motel also runs a small food pantry.
For Brickley, sharing her food and company makes it all worthwhile.
"They look forward to this and it makes us feel so good," she said.
Brickley will provide another holiday meal at the Manor Motel before Christmas and will also be supporting residents with gift cards and other needs.
