DERRY — Parkland Medical Center received the Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in healthcare.

The Environmental Excellence Award recognizes hospitals who are leading the industry with innovation in green practices, demonstrating superior programs, and illustrating how sustainability is a core part of their culture.

“Sustainability is at the heart of Parkland Medical Center and we are proud to share that our strategies have garnered national recognition,” said Diane McNealy, director of Environmental Services at Parkland Medical Center. “We know our efforts are essential and contribute to better care for our patients, for our communities, and for the planet.”

The hospital strongly works toward eliminating mercury, reducing and recycling solid waste, cutting down on regulated and chemical waste, lowering energy and water consumption, sourcing food and products, and establishing green purchasing policies.

“As more and more hospitals embed sustainability into their operations, the bar for environmental excellence increases every year,” Practice Greenhealth President Gary Cohen said. “Parkland Medical Center demonstrates the kind of leadership, innovation, and performance that can drive the entire health sector toward more environmentally responsible practices.”
