LONDONDERRY — Poultry Products Northeast has a new home and a new name.
The company unveiled its new name, Prime Source Foods, at a groundbreaking ceremony held June 12 at the facility's new location on Jack's Bridge Road.
The company will build a 105,000-square-foot facility and the groundbreaking ceremony included company officials, town administrators and officials, and national and state legislators representing Londonderry.
"This is a historic day for our company and its future," Prime Source Foods CEO and president Bill Conrad said. "So many people have worked hard for over 60 years to make it what it is today, and now we are so thrilled to begin our next chapter with a new name and grow with the Londonderry community.
The new facility will include 40,000 square feet of warehouse space, the bulk of which is frozen or refrigerated; an 18,000-square-foot refrigerated dock; 8,000 square feet of processing space and a 3,000-square-foot test kitchen and presentation room.
The plan to bring the business to Londonderry started several years ago. The Planning Board granted the original Poultry Products a conditional approval in 2017.
Back then, Poultry Processing Northeast reported more than 60 years of history serving more than 3,000 customers with 4,000 different protein products sold to retail, wholesale, and restaurants across New England and eastern New York state.
Products include a full line of proteins including all-natural and local products like beef, poultry, pork, seafood, lamb, veal, ethnic specialties and other provisions.
The poultry and other products are brought on site to the processing facility in boxes, then employees unpack, cut and process the product to specifications as per each customer.
First District Congressman Chris Pappas said, as someone whose family is steeped in the restaurant business, he appreciated the company's commitment to supporting the economy.
"I know that businesses like yours are the backbone of our economy," Pappas said through a statement at the groundbreaking. "The more than 3,000 customers are a testament to your hard work and dedication to delivering high quality food products and putting your customers first. Today's groundbreaking ceremony is an occasion to celebrate and look forward to the future growth that this new facility will bring to your business and to this community."
Construction on the new facility is set to begin this summer with completion scheduled for February 2020.
