LONDONDERRY — Londonderry fire officials paid a special visit to three elementary students who were honored for designing posters on fire safety.
On June 5, fire trucks pulled up to both North Elementary and Matthew Thornton Elementary schools to greet the students.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s office and the Fire Prevention Society asks each year for original artwork from New Hampshire third-graders for the annual Fire and Life Safety Calendar Contest. A winner is chosen for each month and the cover. This year two North School students and one Matthew Thornton student were chosen for their winning artwork and safety message.
Art teachers Kathy Sullivan and Kelly Cowan facilitated the artwork and submissions.
At North School last week, Sophia DePasse and Landon Messana along with their classmates, got a close-up look at a fire truck and met with fire officials for photos.
Then at Matthew Thornton, third-grader Carter Blanco was recognized for his fire safety calendar poster submission. Carter and his entire class were able to also meet with visiting fire officials and talk about fire prevention and safety.
The students' fire safety artwork was chosen out of hundreds of submissions across the state.
