LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry Rotary Club ended 2019 by spreading a lot of holiday cheer and supporting area nonprofits and charitable organizations.
At the club's final meeting, members a warded several donations to area missions.
Those awarded include: $2,000 to End 68 Hours of Hunger; $2,000 to Sonshine Soup Kitchen; $1,000 to St. Jude's Food Pantry; $2,000 to St. Gianna's Place; $1,000 to Shepherd's Pantry; and $500 to Community Caregivers of Greater Derry.
The charities that were honored each have their own mission in the community.
End 68 Hours of Hunger works to insure children in schools and their families have nourishing meals for 68 hours each weekend when children are not in school.
Sonshine Soup Kitchen in downtown Derry has been working to provide free, daily meals for three decades.
St. Jude's Food Pantry is open to any person in need. The group provides food and helps with other needs for the less fortunate.
Shepherd's Pantry in Windham provides food and support.
St. Gianna's Place, opened in 2019, provides support and shelter for young pregnant women, along with training and counseling.
Community Caregivers of Greater Derry helps the elderly and disabled stay independent in their homes through a big network of volunteers who offer support with light chores, transportation, friendship and other needs.
All money raised by the Rotary Club through fundraising efforts during the year come back to the community.
