As the holidays arrive, communities are readying fun events for families to help celebrate the season. That includes bringing a beloved tale to life with story times and a special shuttle bus journey.
Windham will offer a Polar Express shuttle to and from its upcoming tree lighting event Dec. 7, and Taylor Library in East Derry also plans its annual holiday Polar Express story times.
During Derry's Nutfield Holiday Parade on Nov. 30, not only will there be dozens of marching units and floats going by, but also an annual holiday tradition to help feed those in need.
Derry Village Rotarians will walk the parade route collecting monetary donations and nonperishable food items to support local food missions and pantries this season.
Strolling for a good cause
The joint Greater Salem and Greater Derry/Londonderry chambers of commerce host a wreath stroll Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Birch Wood Vineyard, 199 Rockingham Road in Derry. The stroll is held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and includes approximately 50 wreaths decorated and ready to be won by those attending. This is also a year-end networking event that includes food, holiday fun and a special guest.
It was a fitting tribute as the Londonderry Fire Department welcomed a piece of the World Trade Center to the Central Fire Station on Nov. 15. To ready for the arrival of the historic relic, the station proudly displayed a huge American flag hanging between tall ladder trucks as part of the welcoming effort. As darkness fell and the winds picked up, the flag flew in the night.
