Shiny objects

Derry will get a look at one big shiny object when it comes to town.

Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues' Zach Sanford, also a member of Pinkerton Academy's Class of 2013, will accompany the big Stanley Cup trophy as it comes to Pinkerton on Monday, Aug. 5, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Marion L. Pounder cafeteria in the Academy Building. The event is open to the public.

Repairing the roads

It wouldn't be summer without a list of road repairs and other construction projects happening in the area.

When the weather is warm, local town crews are out doing much-needed road construction, repair and other work. This week, the town of Londonderry posted notices about work being done on Mammoth Road between Rockingham and Hall roads. That area is closed to through traffic during the work.

Summer still sizzles

As temperatures were spiking again this week, families were still getting out and about for some warm weather fun and cooling off action.

The Splashpad at Don Ball Park in Derry was hopping as children frolicked in the watery area and many others in town took to Gallien's Beach for some heat relief. Summer recreation programs continue in both Derry and Londonderry with special programs on tap to round out the season.

Concerts are not common

These concerts bring much of the area's best talent to local stages as part of free summer concert series offerings.

In Derry, concerts continue Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. at MacGregor Park, weather permitting. Upcoming shows feature Groove Alliance on Aug. 6, and then the series ends Aug. 13 with the Reminisants. In Londonderry, concerts are held Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. on the Town Common. Upcoming shows feature Help on Aug. 7, and All Summer Long on Aug. 14.
