DERRY — The Derry Rotary Club held its charter night event at Fody’s Tavern in Derry last week, celebrating the club’s 49th anniversary.
The club was founded Sept. 13, 1970.
Three members were honored for their contributions to the club and the community.
Charlie Evans, a member since 1982, was awarded his third Paul Harris Fellowship medal.
Eddie Leon, a member since 2008, was awarded his second Paul Harris Fellowship medal.
And Brenda McDougald, a member since 2010, was named Rotarian of the Year.
Both Evans and Leon were recognized for their significant fundraising efforts on behalf of the club. McDougald was recognized for her dedicated efforts on behalf of the club and her involvement in many other charitable organizations in the community.
Adam Mead, club president, said all were deserving of the honors.
“It was an honor to recognize Charlie, Eddie, and Brenda for their contributions to the Derry Rotary Club," Mead said. "These individuals represent the best of what it means to be a Rotarian and continually inspire the club to do more for our community.”
The club is already preparing for its 50th anniversary celebration in 2020. The club’s next event is its fourth annual Holiday Food and Drink Extravaganza, set for Oct. 24.
