It's a season of giving.
And it's not too early to think about those who may be struggling this holiday season due to job loss, illness or other life circumstances making things difficult.
The Derry News Santa Fund is ready to help.
The Santa Fund is gearing up for another season of goodwill and giving and will be collecting donations to support families and individuals in the Greater Derry area.
Since the 1980s, the Santa Fund has brought holiday cheer to thousands of people in the area.
Money raised goes directly to support the longstanding Derry Community Fund and also Londonderry Rotary's holiday missions to help families in that community.
Santa Fund coordinator Cathy DiCampo gives thanks to all who contribute every year and those who will once again help make this season bright.
"Your donations and kind messages give a glimpse of hope to struggling elderly, single parents, and families that, for any number of reasons, need an extra boost over the Thanksgiving and Christmas season," she said. "Your donation in memory of, or in honor of, simply praying for a Merry Christmas for the less fortunate, or an anonymous kind gesture are so very appreciated."
DiCampo said all donations, big or small, are welcome and add up to a very grateful community that otherwise may not be able to put a smile on their face or smiles on the faces of their children.
"Thank you all," she said, "and have a most wonderful and safe holiday season."
In the weeks ahead, the Derry News will be noting those who give, those who are doing great things in the community to support the Santa Fund, and also those who may need a boost this season and will be benefiting from what the Santa Fund does every year.
This year's Santa Fund goal is $22,500. Donations can be dropped off at the Derry News office or mailed to Derry News Santa Fund, 46 West Broadway, Derry, N.H. 03038. Donations can also be made by visiting derrynews.com.
