LONDONDERRY — It’s almost time for the community’s best pies to shine.
Mack’s Apples annual pie competition returns at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the farmstand on Mammoth Road.
The entry list has grown and includes some 40 community bakers hoping to take the top pie prize in either the traditional or nontraditional categories.
Some people are entering both categories. The contest traditionally draws a big crowd.
The traditional pies must be two crust versions with an apple filling. For nontraditional entries, contestants can enter a pie made mostly with apples, but can add other ingredients like other fruits, nuts and cream.
Contestants must be 16 years old to enter. No commercial bakeries or restaurants are allowed to enter. Pies must arrive on contest day in a ready-to-eat form.
Judging will be done by a panel of 10.
Winners will be honored with first, second and third places. Two winners will have their names displayed on the Great Apple Pie Plaque in the farm market and top recipes will be printed and distributed in the store.
Pies should arrive at Mack’s by 1:30 p.m. ; judging begins at 2 p.m.
