Navy Seaman Apprentice James T. Norris, son of Sally and stepson of Charlie K. Bailey-Gates of Londonderry, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Norris completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations". This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values.

Norris is a 2008 graduate of Londonderry High School of Londonderry.

Army Sgt. John W. Sosnowski has been named Noncommissioned Officer of the Third Quarter.

Selection was based on the individual's exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments, and community service and support.

Sosnowski is a military working dog handler assigned to the Headquarters Command Battalion, Fort Meade, Md. He has served in the military for six years.

He is the son of Glenna D. Knights of Londonderry.

Army National Guard Pvt. Steven N. Kazakis has graduated from the Fire Support Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. The field artillery specialists serve in intelligence activities including target processing in field artillery, cannon battalions, division artillery, artillery and maneuver brigade, and headquarters and fire support elements.

The course is designed to train students to establish, maintain, and operate radio and wire communications and speech security equipment, including encoding and decoding messages. They also must prepare and maintain daily staff journals, fire support situation maps, charts and other fire support and target processing procedures, records, and documents.

He is the son of Steven Kazakis of Londonderry and Lisa Kazakis of Weare.

The private is a 2006 graduate of John Stark Regional High School in Weare.

Air Force Reserve Airman Robert E. Bergendahl graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Bergendahl earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of Robert and Lynn Bergendahl of Londonderry.

Bergendahl graduated in 2003 from Londonderry High School and received a bachelor's degree in 2007 from the University of New Hampshire.

Air Force Airman Colton M. Desmarais graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Dennis and Linda Desmarais of Chester.

Desmarais is a 2009 graduate of Pinkerton Academy.
