DERRY —To help celebrate the holiday season, the Festival of Trees returns to Derry on Saturday, Nov. 30.
Businesses can participated by donating a decorated tree to be put on display at the Derry Opera House and raffled off Nov. 30. The event runs from 2 to 5 p.m.
Participating businesses can decorate a tree, either natural or artificial, with ornaments, gift cards, lights and anything that helps showcase the business. Trees can also have a theme of the business or something different and unrelated.
Participants will be highlighted on social media and photos of trees can be shared to help generate interest prior to the raffle.
Businesses will receive raffle tickets so customers can vote to potentially win a favorite tree. Trees should be somewhat portable as winners will need to get them home after the raffle at the Opera House. Downtown businesses can choose to keep their tree at their place of business if they are located within walking distance to the Opera House and also participating in the Holiday Stroll event, also Saturday, Nov. 30.
Proceeds from this year's Festival of Trees will go to support Community Caregivers of Greater Derry, the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the Year for 2019.
