Derry-Salem Elks host Kidsfest
Derry-Salem Elks #2226 host the 22nd annual Kidsfest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11 at the Elks hall, 39 Shadow Lake Road in Salem.
There will be raffles, a rock climbing wall, police and fire officials on hand for demonstrations, a dunk tank, face painting, music, food, games and much more.
The event is free for children and $5 at the gate for adults.
Summer reading closing party set
Taylor Library says goodbye to its summer reading program and hosts a party at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8. Winners of raffle baskets and other contests will be announced and children will receive certificates for summer reading success.

Friends host book sale
The Friends of the Derry Libraries hosts a book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at the library at 64 East Broadway.
There will be a big collection of children's books for sale. Paperbacks are 50 cents; hardcovers are $1.
Upper Room hosts ice cream social
The Upper Room, 36 Tsienneto Road in Derry, hosts its annual ice cream social and open house from 3 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14. All are invited to stop by for some frosty treats and to enjoy a bounce house, face painting, music and outdoor games. This is the 16th year for the ice cream social.
The event is free. Moo’s will donate ice cream and face painting is supported by Well Sense. The bounce house is donated by Funbounce.
There will also be a popcorn truck and musical entertainment. This year’s event is also an open house so community members can learn more about the Upper Room’s programs and services.

Library hosts seagull program
Derry Public Library welcomes T.J. Cullinane for the program, “All About Seagulls,” at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the library at 64 East Broadway.

Library hosts hawk program
Do you love hawks? Derry Public Library has just the thing with its program, "Hawk Watching in the Northeast," set for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the library, 64 East Broadway.
Presenter and bird expert Steve Hale (Bizarre Birds of the World) returns to Derry for a presentation on New Hampshire's vultures, hawks, eagles and falcons.

Rotarians host auction
DERRY — There will be something for everyone going on the auction block as the Derry Rotary Club hosts its annual auction/yard sale. This year's event is Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Fireye parking lot on Tsienneto Road.
The yard sale begins at 9 a.m. with the live auction starting at 9:30 a.m. The longstanding auction has been a Rotary club staple for more than 40 years, attracting big crowds of people hoping to find that bargain price on donated furniture, toys, housewares, gift cards, and much more.
Proceeds support Rotary missions and community projects.
