The Manchester Choral Society, made up of singers representing towns all over the region including Derry, Londonderry, Windham, Chester and Auburn, presents a family holiday pops concert on Saturday, Dec. 15, 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cathedral, 145 Lowell St., in Manchester and again on Sunday, Dec. 16, 3 p.m., at LaBelle Winery, 345 NH Route 101 in Amherst.
The concert is the Choral Society's annual holiday performances. The chorus is a nonprofit, auditioned group established in 1961 and under the direction of Dr. Dan Perkins, professor of music and director of choral activities at Plymouth State University. He is also music director of the New Hampshire Master Chorale and has served as the principal guest conductor of the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet in Hanoi, guest conductor of the Dartmouth Concertato Singers, Dartmouth Handel Society, and as the music director of the Hanover Chamber Orchestra, and New Hampshire Friendship Chorus.
The upcoming performances feature many holiday favorites including "Sleigh Ride," O Holy Night," "Jingle Bells, "Let it Snow," and "Away in a Manger."
There will also be a narrated version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas performed with full orchestra as well as an audience sing-a-long with the Manchester Choral Society, MCS children's chorus, and members of the New England Youth Choir.
The concert is for the entire family and also includes visits with Santa and special treats. There is free concert admission to all students from kindergarten up through undergraduate. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at mcsnh.org or by calling 603-472-6627.
