DERRY — They are some of the most caring and devoted volunteers who work to make the community better.
That's what many said about the newest class of "Living Treasures," honored last Saturday during a special luncheon and awards ceremony at First Parish Church in East Derry.
The Living Treasures recognition ceremony was only the second ever — the first held back in 2005.
The event was part of the ongoing schedule of special events honoring the 300th anniversary of the original Nutfield settlement all this year.
The organizing committee put together a list of about 50 elder volunteers and community supporters to receive the Living Treasure honor this year.
The ceremony also included music provided by the Pinkerton Academy choral students and a video presentation on Derry's Scottish-Irish/Nutfield heritage. Pinkerton Academy culinary arts students provided the luncheon.
