DERRY — It was a celebration of song, the holidays and sweet gingerbread as first-graders at Grinnell Elementary School presented an afternoon showcase to honor the season.

Parents, grandparents and siblings came to Grinnell last week for a gingerbread show, complete with creative costumes and plenty of treats to follow.

Approximately 50 first-graders took the spotlight in the school gym, dressed in their own handmade gingerbread costumes to sing for their families.

Students decorated their own costumes with colorful candy canes, buttons, and other symbols of the season.

After the performance, students and family members went into the classrooms to build gingerbread houses, read stories and enjoy holiday treats.
