Derry celebrates Halloween season

DERRY — It's the month for scary fun, lots of treats and a long list of Halloween activities and family fun to enjoy.

Derry hosts its 2019 schedule that features the annual downtown event, contests, plenty of treats, games and prizes.

Here are some Halloween activities planned:

— On Saturday, Oct. 26, Greater Derry Parks and Recreation hosts a Spooktacular costume parade and contest is held at Veterans Hall gym, 31 West Broadway. Event begins at 11:30 a.m. and includes dancing, games, contests and prizes for best costumes in different age categories. Doors open at 11 a.m. and costume and parade begin promptly at 11:30 a.m. The event is free.

— On Saturday, Oct. 26, the annual Downtown Trick-or-Treat is held. At noon, families can trick or treat along Broadway and then turn onto Crystal Avenue by 1 p.m. to continue the fun. Hood Commons Plaza welcomes families at 2 p.m. Maps are available to spotlight all the businesses that are participating and will display bright orange pumpkins in the windows. Somerset Grille will be at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway to serve up some treats to purchase. Derry Parks and Recreation sponsors this event. Bags for goodies are available at the Recreation office at Veterans Hall, at Derry Public Library, 64 East Broadway, or at the Marion Gerrish Community Center.

— On Sunday, Oct. 17, Thrive Outdoors sponsors a Trunk-or-Treat event, hosted by Journey Church. The event is held at 5 Tinkham Ave. and includes face painting, petting zoo, candy, food and other Halloween fun. Visit for information.

— Town wide trick or treat is held Thursday, Oct. 31. Hours are 6 to 7:30 p.m.
