DERRY — The Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Program is a local chapter of the Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program and the Miss America organization and is now accepting applications for the 36th annual competition.
The event is scheduled for June 23 at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School. The deadline to return a completed application is June 7.
The program will award more than $10,000 in scholarships to the Miss and Teen contestants.
Scholarships go directly to the student’s college, or students may use their award to purchase books and supplies. The new Miss Greater Derry will receive at least $5,000 from the fund.
The competition includes a private interview before a five-member panel of judges, a talent presentation, presence and poise in evening wear and a fitness presentation in athletic wear.
The Miss division age eligibility is for females born between 1996 and 2006. The Teen division is for females born between 2006 and 2011.
Contestants must live, work fulltime or attend school fulltime within a 25-mile radius of the town of Derry, or have graduated or attended Pinkerton Academy, Londonderry High School, Salem High School or Windham High School or any charter school located within Derry or a contiguous town.
Candidates must also be a U.S. citizen. Applications are available via email by contacting co-directors Danielle Jean or Brenda Keith at bkeith@missnh.org.
