Garden club offers scholarship
The Derry Garden Club offers a $1,000 scholarship to a graduated or soon to graduate New Hampshire student who plans to pursue a career in Environmental Studies. This could include botany, landscape design, forestry, horticulture or a variety of other subjects. Application and procedure information is available on the Derry Garden Club webpage at derrygardenclub.org or in the scholarship information available to students at Pinkerton Academy and Londonderry High. Derry Lions Club meets
The Derry Lions Club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month, 6:30 p.m., at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway. The Lions provide charitable help and support with eye exams, eyeglasses, and other missions. For information about the local club, email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Host family needed
A host family is needed for students who may want to attend Pinkerton Academy, Londonderry High or Windham High. Students would arrive with their own spending money, insurance and would help with chores and participate in family and school activities. Touch a Truck planned
Touch a Truck 2020 is set for June 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at West Running Brook Middle School, 1 West Running Brook Lane. The free family event offers hands-on opportunities for children to explore, climb and touch trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy machinery an other response vehicles.
A kids muster event will be held on the rear field at the school hosted by the Derry Fire Department. BMX stunt shows are held at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a horn/siren free hour is planned from 10 to 11 a.m. for those with sensitive ears. Overflow parking will be available at the Derry SAU office, 18 South Main St., and also at Derry Village Elementary School, 28 South Main St. Free shuttle service will be provided from these locations to West Running Brook Middle School.
A free all-purpose helmet will also be provided to children by Derry Police, sized by police officers and with help from the Derry Cooperative School District.
