New date for hazardous waste collection set
A household hazardous waste collection has a new date, Saturday, June 6, 9 a.m. to noon at West Running Brook Middle School off Route 28 in Derry, across from the Fairways apartment complex.
Participants are asked to remain in their cars at all times while on site.
Materials accepted at the collection include household cleaners, fertilizers, pesticides, oil-based paints and stains, and insect sprays. Materials not accepted included automotive or alkaline batteries, explosives, latex paints and radioactive or infectious waste. Food pantry offers ongoing support
For anyone in need of food during challenging times, officials at the First Baptist Church Food Pantry want people to know they are ready to help. The pantry, located at First Baptist Church, 4 Crystal Ave., #4, has stocked shelves and other items for those in need. Community food service for residents
As residents stay home and safe, community meals and food offerings continue with area churches and others taking on supportive tasks to make sure all receive a healthy meal.
Organizations offering meals include: The Salvation Army, 18 Folsom Road, 603-434-7799, free food for any resident from Derry, Windham, or Londonderry. There are no age or income requirements but bring a form of identification if possible. Drive-up food services are available at the Salvation Army site every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. For individuals unable to drive, call the Salvation Army and plan for delivery options. Donations are always welcome to support the Salvation Army’s continuing mission to serve the communities in the area. Food is also provided through donations from the New Hampshire Food Bank and local grocery stores.
Sonshine Soup Kitchen reopens serving curbside pickup meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 to 5 p.m pickup, at its 6 Crystal Ave. location.
Meals on Wheels/Rockingham County Nutrition, 603-679-2201, free meals delivered to homes, primarily for senior citizens over 60 or those home bound due to health conditions. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday. Service is for anyone in Rockingham County. Call to begin registration process.
Derry Cooperative School District offers meals for students in grades kindergarten through grade eight at no cost to families. Meals are available for curbside pickup Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Running Brook Middle School, 1 West Running Brook Lane. Call for information at 603-437-1210.
The Upper Room, 36 Tsienneto Road, offers its food pantry for those in need. There is no cost and service is for people in the Greater Derry area. Food is available on Mondays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Preregistration is not required. Call 603-437-8477, ext. 10.
