Childsplay takes the Stockbridge stage

COURTESY HOTOThe Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy and Heptunes are collaborating with fiddle/violin ensemble Childsplay for a performance Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stockbridge in Derry.

DERRY — To honor the area's rich history, including this year's 300th anniversary of the original Nutfield settlement, the Stockbridge Theatre and Heptunes present fiddle/violin ensemble Childsplay on Thursday, Nov. 14.

The show will be held at the Stockbridge at Pinkerton Academy, 4 North Main St., with the performance starting at 7:30 p.m.

This is Childsplay's first New Hampshire performance in its 25-year history. The ensemble features more than a  dozen fiddlers and violinists, and singers and dancers.

All of the violins and fiddles were handcrafted for the musicians by Cambridge-based master violin maker Bob Childs.

The upcoming performance features Irish vocalist Karan Casey, founding member of the group Solas, to help salute the 300th celebration of Nutfield, the original settlement and its towns of Derry, Londonderry, Windham and Derryfield in Manchester.

The repertoire will feature music influenced by Scottish and Irish traditions and tunes.

In addition to Casey, the concert features Scottish national fiddle champion Hanneke Cassel, Lissa Schneckenburger, Katie McNally, and dancer Maureen Berry performing Irish tap and other traditional dances.

Tickets for Childsplay are available through the Stockbridge box office, by calling 603-437-5210 or at stockbridgetheatre.com.
