DERRY — It was a night of music, games, special guests and plenty of community spirit.

Derry joined with communities all across the nation as part of the 36th annual National Night Out on Aug. 6.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Derry Police Department along with the Derry Fire Department and Derry Parks and Recreation, the night is planned every year to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for community organizations, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships and also bring out families to enjoy a night of fun.

Derry's National Night Out event coincided with the weekly summer concert in MacGregor Park series, featuring the band Groove Alliance playing on stage while police officers and fire officials visited with families and their children. McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparky the Firefighting Dalmatian were also on hand for photo opportunities.
