DERRY — Etz Hayim Synagogue’s successful Hot Topics, Cool Contemporary Stuff continuing education series resumes in October with presentations on topics that are designed to provide fun and interesting learning opportunities, foster cross-cultural understanding, and provide access to information that will help to create an enlightened citizenry.

The programs are open to the public at no cost (although donations are gratefully accepted). The synagogue is located at 1 1/2 Hood Road.

Course offerings include:

The Jewish Way in Death and Dying, presented by Etz Hayim's Rabbi Peter Levy, Oct. 4, 7 p.m.

Summer Opportunities in Israel by Shlicha Noam Wolf, Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m.

Showing of the documentary "It's Criminal" about life-changing journeys of incarcerated women with a discussion by film director Signe Taylor, Oct. 28, 4 p.m.

Jews and Law Enforcement on Nov. 1, 7 p.m. presented by a police officer and retired FBI agent.

Life in the Israeli Army on Dec. 6, 7 p.m.

Why Women Should be Doctors and Your Doctors Should be Women on Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m. featuring successful female doctors from various practices.

Different Roots, Common Dreams: New Hampshire's Cultural Diversity with author/photographer Becky Field, showing photos from her award-winning book on the lives of New Hampshire immigrants and refugees. Program is Feb. 7, 7 p.m.
