Pinkerton team take the plunge

DERRY — Members of Pinkerton Academy's Leadership Council of Athletics (LCA) joined other members of the Greater Derry community to help raise money for the First Baptist Church Food Pantry and will participate in the third annual Pantry Plunge Dec. 14, at Gallien's Beach at Beaver Lake.

Each member of the LCA was charged with raising $50 in pledges and getting a friend to participate as well. There are 36 members of the LCA.

LCA President Derek Hiscox was excited to be part of efforts to benefit the Derry community.

“We did it last year for Special Olympics in Hampton," he said. "This year we wanted to do something more local. We decided to partner with Nancy (Francis) and do it for the food pantry so that we could more directly benefit the people in the Pinkerton and Derry community.”

Francis, Pantry Plunge organizer, came to Pinkerton to speak to students about the event.
