DERRY | Women are less likely to have financial stability during their senior years, according to Stacy Thrall, owner of Here on Earth Adult Day Services in Londonderry.

A seminar on Women and Aging, sponsored by Here On Earth and Primerica Financial Services, will be held on Thursday, April 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce meeting room.

"This seminar is to educate women on the unique challenges they face financially as they age," Thrall said. "Women generally have lower-paying jobs than men during their lives, and they don't put as much money into Social Security and retirement plans."

According to the National Family Caregiver Alliance, women are likely to spend an average of 12 years out of the work force raising children or caring for an older relative. While the number of men caring for an aging parent or spouse is increasing, the average caregiver is 46 years old, female, married and working outside the home.

"There are community services available to help women care for a parent or spouse that will allow a woman to keep working," Thrall said. "There are more resources than nursing homes."

The guest speaker for the seminar is Robert Dais Jr. of Primerica Financial Services.
