DERRY — A fairy tale princess and her Prince Charming take the stage next week when Kids Coop Theatre presents "Cinderella."
The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical classic will be presented May 14 at 7 p.m. and May 15 at 1 and 7 p.m. at the Adams Memorial Opera House on East Broadway.
Londonderry's Kelly DeLew has the lead role as Cinderella. She said the shows are very professional.
"I'm very excited to be playing Cinderella, especially with this cast," she said. "And it's my first time playing a lead."
"Cinderella" became a television classic in the 1950s and 1960s. Songs in the show include "My Own Little Corner," A Lovely Night" and "Ten Minutes Ago."
The show is the next in a long line of shows young actors in this area have taken on through Kids Coop many years as a youth theater group.
Elissa Colombo of Chester had to watch her older brother Mike perform in several Kids Coop productions because she wasn't old enough. Now, she said, it's her turn to shine in a show.
"It was worth the wait," she said. "I get to play a naughty village child and that's so much fun."
The cast features a total of 40 youth, ages 8 to 18. Director Jude Bascom, music director Blake Leister and choreographer Nikki Aubert Murray team up for the fifth time.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students for the 7 p.m. shows. All tickets are $10 for the Saturday matinee. Tickets are available at Daren's Music Center in Derry or online at www.kids-coop-theatre.org.
