DERRY — The calendar said spring started last month, but two of the true signs of the new season in Derry are opening days at Moo's Ice Cream and Clam Haven.

Nothing says winter's over like a fried seafood lunch or towering ice cream sundae.

The weather may have indicated otherwise, with snow and rain on Friday, but loyal customers lined up at moo's for the first cone or sundae of the season.

Parkas were de rigueur, but appetites for cold treats were strong nonetheless.

On Saturday, even the outside picnic tables at Clam Haven were called into service as fans got their first taste of fried clams and other seasonal food at the window.
