Writing contest targets disease

CONCORD — In an effort to raise awareness about the young people with chronic health conditions, the Council for Youths with Chronic Conditions, hosts a New Hampshire youth with special health care needs essay contest.

New Hampshire’s middle school students are invited to participate. To participate, students in grades six through eight can write an essay, no longer than 500 words, describing how someone with a chronic health condition has inspired them.

Submit the essay along with the child’s age, city, state, and a parent or guardian’s preferred method of contact to Social Security Disability Help by Dec. 1. The essays can be submitted by email to Jeff@ccachc.org.

Three winners will earn the chance to win a $150 savings bond. Winning essays will be posted on the council’s website and possibly included in a book about inspiring children with chronic conditions.

LMS silent auction planned Dec. 5

LONDONDERRY — Londonderry Middle School’s Wellness Committee hosts its seventh annual silent auction event on Dec. 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the middle school, 313 Mammoth Road.

There will be gift baskets and activities for the entire family. The event is planned to bring awareness to the school’s efforts to plan wellness initiatives, special activities, guest speakers and after-school programs for students.

School plans holiday fair Dec. 7

DERRY — The Nutfield Cooperative School hosts its holiday fair on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, located at First Parish Church, 47 East Derry Road.

There will be more than 20 vendors on hand to show off their items. There will also be raffles, a bake sale and local crafters and artisans. All money raised goes to support the Nutfield school, serving the community since 1969.

Pinkerton student wins big at FFA

DERRY — Pinkerton Academy sophomore Ryan Cox won a sixth-place award at the national Future Farmers of America convention in Kentucky.

He earned the honor for his recitation of the FFA creed, a five-paragraph statement of belief regarding the future of agriculture.
