DERRY — Derry Parks and Recreation Department hosts its annual Downtown Trick-or-Treat event on Oct. 22.
Downtown businesses and merchants will open their doors to young ghouls and goblins throughout the day.
The day kicks off with a costume parade and contest at 11:30 a.m. at Veterans Hall gymnasium. Prizes will be given to children ages infant through 12 in the following categories: Most Creative, Spookiest and Judges' Choice.
After the costume parade, children can then head out for some trick-or-treating action.
Businesses along West and East Broadway, Crystal Avenue and Hood Commons are on board to participate this year.
Participating businesses will have bright orange jack-o'-lantern posters in their windows.
Schedule for trick-or-treating is as follows:
11:30 a.m.: Costume parade and contest, Veterans Hall.
Noon: Trick-or-treat on Broadway, Crystal Avenue and at Hood Commons
Treat bags are available at the Parks and Recreation office or at Derry Public Library or may be picked up the day of the event at the costume parade in Veterans Hall.
A list of merchants will be included. Call Derry Parks and Recreation for information at 432-6136.
In addition to downtown trick-or-treat action, other events in town include a Halloween party hosted by VFW Post 1617 with costume contest, games and treats on Oct. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Post on Railroad Avenue.
