DERRY —Families were able to get up close with some of the brightest and bravest officials and emergency vehicles in town.

The Derry Fire Department opened its doors at the Central Fire Station last weekend hosting its annual fire prevention open house.

The day included giving children a chance to see the inside of a fire truck while meeting the officials who staff the station.

Demonstrations on fire prevention and safety, security systems, how to keep generators safe and also the proper way to use a fire extinguisher were offered to visitors.

The open house was part of the department’s annual observance of Fire Prevention Safety Month, when officials open the station up for the public to stop by and get valuable information for keeping their homes safe.
